Andrew Fraser

Andrew Fraser is Director of Public Health Science with NHS Health Scotland.  He was Director of Public Health in NHS Highland from 1994-97, Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the Health Department of the Scottish Office, then Scottish Executive from 1997-2003 where he was responsible for advice on Public Health Policy.  From 2003-2012, he worked in the Scottish Prison Service as Director of Health and Care, where he also co-directed the WHO co-ordinating centre to improve prisoners health.  His current focus is on public health reform, and ways to tackle health inequalities in Scotland. He chairs the MESAS Governance Board, the programme set up to monitor and evaluate Scotland’s alcohol strategy and specifically Minimum Unit Pricing.
